Welcome to insidefostercare.com

-- a place to discuss important issues that address the foster care system.  Hopefully, these exchanges will include not only problems within the "system" but also suggestions for their resolutions.

My name is Elizabeth Jacobs.  I have served on Arizona's Foster Care Review Board since 1999, am an adoptive parent, a former foster child, and, as a psychologist,  I have focused my research efforts on the attachment challenges that face foster children as they move through the system.   I am a recent retiree from Glendale Community College (GCC) and continue to teach one or more classes at GCC and Paradise Valley Community College.  It was during a sabbatical from GCC that I researched the topic of attachment challenges for foster children which culminated in a book entitled, "Will I Ever See You Again?"  (Available on Amazon.com.)  A condensed version of the information in that book is squeezed into 90 minute presentations for Family Court Judges, new CASAs, and multidisciplinary groups.   I also write short articles for CASA newsletters, a few of which will provide the kindling for this new project.

It is my hope that this effort will include a variety of participants involved in some way with foster children, including, but not limited to:  Foster Care Review Board members, CASAs, foster parents, current or former foster children, case managers, therapists, grandparents, school nurses, community nurses, Family Court judges, GALs, attorneys, law enforcement, psychologists, pediatricians --

Discussion starters are very welcome.  Please email me, if you have suggestions, questions, or concerns about posts or suggestions for new topics.  Elizabeth
